![]() I’ve also found that my “slacker boob” empties much more efficiently with these inserts! They make lots of different sizes and versions to fit many pump brands (Medela, Spectra, etc) as well. The Maymom inserts are comfortable, inexpensive, integrate nicely with my existing Medela setup and are only two additional pieces to wash. I find it’s more comfortable than the 21mm hard plastic flanges I was using before, which were definitely too large despite being the smallest size Medela makes. My preferred setup for daily pumping has ended up being 24mm Medela hard plastic flanges with Maymom 17mm soft silicone inserts. I also like that they’re just one piece to wash! I think these will be a good option to have in my pumping bag when I travel, just to have some variety if I’m exclusively pumping. For those reasons, I don’t tend to reach for them often. I wish this part was thinner and laid more naturally against the breast. ![]() I also find that the funnel edge of the flange (the wide part that touches the breast) is a bit thick and bulky, so it’s sometimes difficult to get a good seal. However, the flanges themselves are quite long, so they add a lot of projection to my pump setup and feel a bit precarious and “swingy.” I suppose you could cut them down as they are soft silicone, but I was too nervous to do this myself and risk ruining them. The Lactek flanges were quite comfortable and seemed to work well in terms of output (I went with the 18mm size). The company allows you to return them though, so it was definitely worth a try! Pumpin Pals flanges just didn’t work for me unfortunately, despite several attempts and watching the videos on proper application. I’m not sponsored by any of these products or trying to sell anything - just a regular mom hoping this information helps someone.įor context, my breasts are fairly large (30DDD pre-pregnancy), and my nipples are fairly small (16mm) and elastic. I used my Medela pump with all of these options. I also tried the Legendairy Milk in-bra cups (similar to Freemie). I experimented with Pumpin Pals, Lactek soft silicone flanges and Maymom silicone flange inserts. I’ve spent the past few weeks experimenting with different pumping setups after learning the hard way (during my first trip without baby - more on that in a separate post) that my original setup (Medela Freestyle Flex pump with 21mm hard plastic flanges) wasn’t optimal.
